Nathan is a Clinical Mental Health Counselor dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate life's most difficult challenges with compassion, respect, and hope. He has been working in the field for more than 20 years and brings his extensive experience to support people facing complex personal, family, and life circumstances.
Nathan specializes in supporting individuals and families who have experienced trauma. He believes that healing begins in a safe, collaborative, therapeutic relationship where clients are recognized for their strengths, resilience, and capacity for growth. His strengths-based approach empowers clients to discover meaning in their experiences, develop effective coping strategies, and build confidence as they move toward a healthier, more hopeful future.
Nathan has extensive experience working with Child Welfare, Juvenile Justice and Substance Use populations, working across a variety of settings including residential, outpatient and in-home interventions. He spent the past several years supervising the Salt Lake County Mobile Crisis Teams and is currently a full-time Professor at the University of Utah.
Whether you are working through the impact of trauma, navigating family challenges, relationship dynamics, difficult interpersonal interactional patterns, or seeking personal growth, Nathan is committed to providing a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where lasting change is possible. Together, we will work collaboratively to identify strengths, overcome obstacles, and create meaningful progress toward your goals. Nathan uses a variety of modalities to achieve these goals, including; DBT skills, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approaches and Psychodynamic interventions to recognize, acknowledge, understand, and express, your emotions in order to identify and change behavioral patterns.
Nathan completed his education at the University of Utah, where he received both his BA (English), and Master’s Degree through the Department of Educational Psychology's Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. He is a lifelong Utah resident and has a deep understanding of the culture and experiences of what it means to live in Utah. In his free time, you can find him going up a mountain slowly so he can come down it fast.
